Trudy, Leigh-Anne, Karen, Di, Sally and Kathryn were busy last week, the week before the Shine Centres' opened. ( Karen is our new link at Zonnebloem, whom I will introduce at a later stage, and Nomawethu from Observatory was very sick so was unable to join us, sadly).
We were privileged to have Linda Van Duuren, a consultant on Narrative Therapy Practices, come and work with us. She talked to us about 'Listening for Stories that Honour' with our children. She helped us to recognise and identify 'sparkling moments;' the skill of co- authoring stories, and helping a child find the 'Preferred Narrative' to their lives. We enjoyed two days in Maurita's warm and cosy home, enjoying true soul food. I found a new narrative for Maurita: she is an amazing hostess!
Thank you Linda for your warmth, sense of humour, your honesty and your generosity of spirit. Linda gave up two days of her own time to come and do the workshop with us. What a gift. I know the links are looking forward to sharing what they have learnt with the children in the months to come.
We received a lovely letter from Linda in response to our thank you:
'Thursday and Friday turned out to be such a special two days for me.
I so appreciated working with your links team...what wonderful women, I left feeling inspired to be more, to do more.....I am left with a sense of Shine having such a meaningful, practical and deep-comforting effect on the lives of the people it reaches ... flexible strength, top quality fibre...Thank YOU for the opportunity.'

Silly question perhaps, but was Linda van Duuren born in the Netherlands? She looks like someone I went to school with....
