Prestwich St Parent workshop and graduation for the Grade R's, November 2010

We had a full house on Thursday of over 60 families to see their Grade R child graduate to Grade One. We seized the opportunity to hand out Parent Packs with useful materials for the holidays, alphabet charts to create games, a little graded reader, a library joining form and sounds of the alphabet. We did a fun demonstration of the sounds of the Alphabet, using a powerpoint, and we shared the action that goes with each sound... the parents were so enthusiastic, and were most appreciative of the free shared reading books we gave away at the end of the session. We also talked about the joy of reading to your child, and the closeness that it creates. As usual, the rendition of the SA National anthem by the children at the end of the session had me quietly weeping.... I love this country, and being involved in mornings like this make all the hard work we are involved in so very worthwhile.
