Nomawethu sent me the following message after her first month with Shine;'....Just so speechless to find people with goals and dreams, because the love I have for children is countless, because they just make everything stop, and you feel like it is only you and them. These children are so cute in every way... the smiles and the love they give.......Carrie has made everything so easy for me... I am getting to know the kids and the volunteers... thank you so much for welcoming me to The Shine Centre. I can promise fantastic results in everything I do!'
Noma joined us as a link at Observatory at the beginning of May, and I thought I would share a bit of background on her. We were so impressed with her quiet confidence and her unbelievable strength and focus. In her spare time, Noma is one of three women who are participating in a project called Isicongo. She is on a personal journey that will take her to all of the seven continents, where she will attempt to climb the highest peak on each, ultimately aiming to be the first black women to summit Everest. The website www.isicongo.co.za on the project states:
'Testament to her impressive determination, the first foreign mountain Noma ever climbed was Mount Elbrus (the highest mountain in Europe), which she summited on 9 September 2006.
She summited Kilimanjaro on 9 November 2006, and Aconcagua in Argentina on 7 January 2007. On 17 February 2008 Noma summited Kosciuszko.'
We welcome Noma, and look forward to supporting her progress within The Shine Centre, and on her personal summit quest. It is lovely to have her with us.
