Parent Workshop February 2010, Zonnebloem
The 'pink room' at Zonnebloem has become a regular venue for our parent workshops. Our latest
session was attended by nearly 40 parents, eager to help their children in the process of learning to read.
I never cease to be moved by the dedication of the parents who attend these sessions. One of our parents, Si Thembiso, Londiwe's dad, is a people's poet, who has agreed to come and talk about the importance of reading, and to read his poetry at our next parent workshop. He approached me after our last workshop, asking whether he could write an ode to the Shine Centre, and present it to us. I am most excited about the true community spirit that our workshops evoke: the more our workshops can become a shared activity, with outside influences like this, the more powerful the Shine message will become.
