The ululation of scores of women was cause for goose-bumps on Friday morning. Every time someone was introduced to present the beautiful journey of the organisation Ikamva Labantu, the singing started: the ladies took centre-stage. Which was fitting, as the concept for Kwakhanya has been inspired by the women of the community. For Helen Lieberman, the Founder of Ikamva Labantu, the new centre is possibly the culmination of her life's work. The centre is set to create and nurture cutting-edge care from pre-birth onwards. A world class facility, in the heart of Khayelitsha has been created. Mothers' groups, a pre-school, parent training and teacher and community worker training is happening, daily. This holistic approach could be the answer to the dire education situation in this country. By starting early, at grass roots, amongst the vulnerable, this centre is truly a way to manifest the vision of moving from 'darkness into light.' We salute you, Ikamva.
